Nice to meet you, Neigbhor! | For Claude. | March 15.
[ it was easy to tell something was wrong with 'blossom' almost immediately.
she could be found at her locker on monday morning, cheerfully singing a song under her breath - all the chapel bells were ringing, in the little valley town - while she was taking out certain things from her locker and carelessly dumping them in a trashcan she (politely!) asked for.
closer inspection reveals them to be her notebooks containing her careful notes on maths, sciences, and a few other things that look like calculations and notes on other things... like plans and projects, one of them focusing on the network devices. she took careful notes on its capabilities and limitations, listing features it could have but is hidden, and more.
not that she seems to care now. noelle happily dumps more items on top of the notes, not seeming to care at how they're being crumpled and torn under the considerable weight of them.
whether she notices claude or claude gets her attention first, the results are the same: 'blossom' immediately turns to face him, with an unnerving grace and a delightfully vacant smile. she beams at the sight of her friend, wide as her mouth will allow, showing all of her teeth, chirping out a happy, ] Morning!
[ she politely places a lid on top of the trashcan so she can focus all of her attention on claude - it'll be awfully rude to ignore a boy, after all! - looking at him with an empty yet piercing gaze that shows no one's at home. ]
It's such a beautiful day, Claude. Are you excited about school? Because I'm sure excited about school. [ she laughs, stilted and forced.
hahaha ha ha ha haaa ahaha. ] I can't wait to tell my mom I'll be focusing more on home economics! She'll be so proud of me for focusing on what a lady really needs to know!
no subject
Why is she clearing out? Is she trying to get rid of something? Why? If she's trying to not get caught, there are better places to dump everything than the trashcan right in the middle of the hall. Gee, Blossom, at least burn your notes?
When he finally decides to approach her to see exactly what's up, he can hear her singing.)
Someone's in a good mood...
(His way of starting small talk to see what's going on with Noelle this morning. Ah, but as soon as she turns around, things seem to click in place. This place... it did something to her too, didn't it? Well, time to act accordingly. All he has to do is shift his personality just a little and...)
It sure is. (He smiles at her! Charming and natural,) You know me. I'm always ready to learn something new.
(Home economics... cooking, sewing, and all of those domestic things. Not that he's every had a problem with any of those things before and if anything, what's not to love about a class where you can cook and eat what you make? But hearing her reasoning doesn't sit well with him one bit,)
Is that why you're cleaning out your locker...?
(Is she throwing away the notes from her other classes...)
no subject
I have to focus on important things! It's nice that they allowed me to try out this stuff but I've gotta focus on the essentials!
Besides! A lot of the things in here? Nothing but looooots of trouble. I can't believe I would get myself involved with such mischief.
[ she pulls out from the trashcan, holding them up as an example for the 'mischief' she's trying to get rid of: it's the notes and papers focusing on the network devices again. with her holding them up almost, it becomes more clear what these are an attempt to build up a possible schematic or blueprint of the device, highlighting possible features it has and describes a list of 'security software/hardware' to be careful of like keystroke logging, ip logging, and more.
then she starts to rip them up, humming cheerfully while tearing them into strips and pieces. ] I shouldn't be doing anything like this! It's not good at all for the town, you know.
no subject
... Yeah, the important things.
(Cooking, cleaning, sewing, and all of those things in between. It's not that he doesn't think those things are important but the way Noelle goes about this is so unnatural and forced. It's clear she cared about other things before this happened and to have her suddenly forget that? Or act like it doesn't matter?
He doesn't seem to react much when she begins to rip into her papers but he feels it. Ouch.)
Hey-- (He holds up a hand to try and stop her,) If you aren't using those anymore, do you think you can give them to me?
(How does he explain this if they're "no good.")
I've really been struggling in class and your notes are probably better than mine. (...) Your writing is way better than mine. You should see my notes. I can barely read them once class is over, hah. So every bit helps.
It's quite alright with us. | For Da Vinci. | March 11.
[ and noelle had gotten used to being alone in the house too.
when she wakes up and rolls out of bed, needing to make breakfast for herself before she went to school, she froze upon the realization that this isn't her bedroom.
she immediately goes to check if the knife is still under her pillow and, yep, still there, against all odds. she's taking the damn thing with her as she quietly goes down hallways, looking at photographs and evidence of who lives her.
a quick inspection reveals that, apparently, it's her who lives her. her and someone else, a woman. it looks like she got shuffled into another family again after her 'dad' ditched her and... noelle isn't sure how to feel about that. she knows it makes her stomach twist, her cheeks flush, grip tightening on the knife's handle way too tight but.
she doesn't know how to pinpoint the exact cause of it.
maybe it's why when da vinci finds noelle standing at the doorway of her room, noelle is trying very hard to resist the temptation to whip out the knife she has tucked under her pajamas. she instead lifts up the breakfast tray she half-assed, showing a presentable display of toast and coffee and fruit. hell, she went as far as to get a vase and flower to decorate it. she needs to sell the big bright smile she feels on her face, knowing well impressions are important despite her twitchy, twitchy nerves. ]
Morning! I hope I didn't wake you up. [ she looks bashful and embarrassed when asking this, staying at the doorway until she's given indication she can go in. ] It looks like we got shuffled together and I wanted to get on the right foot with my new family member! I hope we can get along.
no subject
She's just gotten herself to the bare minimum of presentable, hair tamed and a sheer peignoir layered over a rather skimpy nightgown, only to gasp softly at the unexpected sight of the girl already standing at her doorway.]
Oh! Good morning.
[She can definitely sense a bit of tension behind that bright smile, but doesn't read much into it. She just offers a kind smile of her own in return.]
Here, come on in...
[She steps aside to give the girl space, guiding her towards the nightstand where she can set the tray down.]
I don't mind doing the cooking, you know. But it's very sweet of you to do something like this! Were you close with your other family?
[It's a strange brand of getting-to-know-you talk, yet she tries to present a welcoming figure. Noelle is gently encouraged to sit with her on the edge of the bed, not that she has to accept the invitation. Whatever she's most comfortable with works for Da Vinci. This is a novel situation, actually... not just being housed with a young lady, but one who approached her room first. It seemed the men in her previous house were always trying to avoid her, for some reason or another.]
no subject
noelle quickly sets the tray down so she can stand up proper - and adjust her clothes to better hide the knife better in her waistband. she doesn't need it to make an obvious bump or fold as she takes a seat, beaming up at the new person she's going to be living with for the next few... months? weeks?
she can roll with this. noelle forces herself to beam up in the excitement of meeting someone seemingly so nice and friendly as her new mom. she goes as far to give a little bounce in her seat (while avoiding the danger of stabbing herself because that would be an embarrassing way to be caught) before she settles down to answer the question: ]
Ah... I only had a 'father' in my last household. He isn't with us anymore. [ she makes sure to look sad enough, frowning in worry. ] It seems he left this place. No one else remembers him and it seems to be expected...? At least from what I read on the, um, device thingy I have.
[ she won't go out of her way to say his name or give a description. she has no idea if he interacted with anyone or told them he had a daughter, possibly blowing the cover she has. better to be safe than sorry. ]
no subject
[She's definitely observed something unusual about her "daughter's" movements, but it's so barely there it doesn't seem worth taking note of. She seems nice enough... almost too cheerful. At least until she mentions her previous "father".]
I see...
Normally, I'd think leaving this place is a good thing. But it's hard to be sure when we don't know exactly what happens.
[She pauses to pluck a small piece of fruit from the tray Noelle had brought. When she faces her again, it's with an enigmatic, calm smile that could be either reassuring or sympathetic. Maybe both.]
Well, unusual circumstances aside, it's very nice to meet you. If you're the type to play along with this place, I don't mind being called Mom~. [She throws in a teasing little wink, just for fun.] But my name is Leonardo da Vinci. Leona, for the sake of simplicity. My real name tends to make the natives a bit restless, for some reason.
no subject
leona seems nice enough, from what she's picking up from their talk so far. it makes her wonder of the last name situation she's been pondering over for a while. will she stick to her guns and introduce herself as blossom d'orsay or replace it blossom da vinci to stick with the crowd and...
and...
...
.....
oh wait a fucking second.
what did she say her last name was? ]
Ah! I'm so sorry, Mom, but I think I misheard something you said earlier. [ noelle laughs and is unable to hide the awkwardness but can you blame her? especially with how the next question sounds like pure word salad to her: ] Did you say your name is Leonardo da Vinci?
[ maybe her ears were fucking up at that moment. she wouldn't put it past this fucky town they're trapped in. ]
no subject
Is her daughter just that type of girl? Does she really not mind playing along with what the town says? Or is she just doing what she thinks will appease her new parent? She'll have to pay attention to determine the answer. Even as a fake mother, she still feels some responsibility for those placed under her charge. She wouldn't want the girl to be too immediately trusting, but she also would hope she wouldn't be too suspicious of others working towards the same goals...
Well, in any case, she's keeping up that smile. At the expectedly incredulous question, she simply nods as if it were a perfectly normal thing.]
Of course! The one and only. Maybe you've even seen this face before?
[She's definitely more... conventionally attractive by modern standards.
Anime lady hot, in other words. But her resemblance to a certain famous painting is definitely there, especially in her smile.]Then again, maybe not. I could not even exist in your world, or at least not as I am here. I wouldn't think too hard on it, if it seems that strange.
no subject
oh fuck.
noelle was this close to possibly stabbing someone who is considered a fucking saint in her world, whose face she recognises now when it's brought up. holy shit. she doesn't know how to feel about these turn of events - she does know, for sure, she had to ditch the knife at the first chance she gets - but it's evident with how she looks a little loss for words. for a while her mouth can only open and close a few times as her brain tries to register the turn of events. ]
Umm- [ get something out, noelle! ] Definitely not as you are now. You do exist where I'm from, yes, but in a very, um, unique standing from my time period.
[ that's one way to say it. ]
Sorry! I- I guess the idea of 'people from other worlds' is just sinking in for me, [ is perhaps the most honest thing she's said since her arrival. she had a faint understanding of it when speaking to other people, getting an idea of where they're from with how they acted or how they reacted to things, but is the first big instance of it, proper.
it's a lot to take in and makes her plans going forward a bit more tricky, to say the least. ]
Would you mind if we talked a bit more somewhere, um, more comfortable for sitting? [ she tries to add some humour with a joke, adding, ] And somewhere easier to clean the dishes? I'll handle that for you, Mom, so don't worry! It's only fair.
[ plus it gives her a really good excuse to get her knife away. ]
no subject
My, how interesting! I knew I was a universal genius, but I haven't heard much yet about myself in other worlds.
[She chuckles softly, with a moderate amusement in her tone.]
How about I meet you downstairs in a minute, and we can talk some more? I'd like it if we could get along while we're here. You don't have to be so on edge...
[There's the sly little teasing smirk in full force again. Does she know what Noelle was up to the whole time? Well, not exactly. But she's going to play it off like she does know more than she's letting on. She'll figure out her new daughter's odd blend of cheery and guarded eventually, anyway.]
no subject
noelle smiles and nods, standing up casually as she can while pretending to adjust her outfit for wrinkles. ] Of course! I'll grab some pen and paper too, if we need it, and I'll meet you down there, Mom!
[ and off she goes-
noelle has always been quick with her feet and her hands. by the time da vinci gets downstairs to meet up with her, she's managed to hide away the knife in its appropriate drawer - to her annoyance, because she'll need to find a way to get it back - and has the promised pen and paper out.
it seems she went out of her way to write some things down: a name (blossom d'orsay), a year (2072), and a location (san francisco). she beams up at da vinci, waving in greeting as she gestures to the the memopad. ]
I thought to break the ice by writing some basic things about myself! If you want to share anything or the same things I wrote, please feel free! I would love to get to know you better, Mom.
[ who, in her world, is leonardo, one of the venerated. h u h. ]
no subject
She doesn't get dressed or anything, but she does fix up her hair and use just the tiniest bit of makeup to get rid of that annoying just-woken-up look. Then, feeling more ready to face the world (even if that world is just her new fake daughter), she slips into some matching kitten-heeled mule slippers and steps downstairs. What can she say, she's embraced the 50's-60's TV housewife aesthetic.
She glances at the memo pad as she sits down to join the young girl.]
Perfect, that's exactly what I was going to ask, Blossom! It's nice to finally meet you.
[She takes up the pen herself and taps the end to the corner of her lips, thoughtfully.]
San Francisco in 2072 is where you're from, then? It's a little more complicated for me, but in that case...
[She writes in a loopy, but neatly organized script. In her own little section, she writes the name "Leonardo da Vinci", and two different times and places. The first is "1519; Amboise, France"... the second, "2019; Chaldea".]
If your world's history is similar to mine, then you might already understand the first. The second... well, only a few even in my world know of it. But it is where I'm most recently from.
