JUST A DREAM FROM YESTERDAY
Living Island. If ever there were a first step to stopping this madness, it’s figuring out what those words mean. But starting is always the hardest part, and with nothing else to go by than two seemingly unrelated, nonsensical words left behind by a force you can’t see much less communicate with, an already arduous task seems even more impossible. This is furthered by the reactions you get when you hit the street and start asking people if they know anything about Living Island. Most of them can only look back at you blankly, as if waiting for a punchline that never comes. Others actually take you seriously enough to consider the question, and to their credit, they do take their time racking their brains to remember where they’ve heard that name before, why it sounds so familiar. But the most you’ll get back from them is a sheepish shrug of the shoulders and a reply that it sounds like something from TV. It gets to the point where their answers blend together, each one more unremarkable than the last. Save for the one you get from the last person you haven’t asked. Living Island.

OOC INFO
Welcome to the second part of February’s event! You can use this entry to top-level for the event, but feel free to utilize the log and network communities as well.
There will be a top-level posted for NPC interaction tied to the second prompt below, wherein you can request to play out your character’s interaction with Harding or Rosemary. If you would like to have your character interact with either one of them, comment to the top-level with the name of the NPC you would like to thread with. You may only thread with one NPC. The mods will respond to NPC tags until February 28th.
Any questions can go in our FAQ thread below. Try to check and see if your question has already been answered on the plotting thread first here.

Kids aren't the most careful. I imagine with all that excitement, they can't all be at their best behaviour in leaving, once they realize the game's up and your men chase them back to their respective houses.
[ angelo watches him keenly. if he had his newtype abilities he would certainly be a bit more feral, but as he doesn't and he doesn't have his radar telling him his vibes are rancid at the moment, he just adds, ] .... it's alright, it doesn't matter.
I suppose if there had been, Santa Rosita would remember.
Sorry for the wait, neighbor!
If it doesn't matter, why won't you let it go?
[He says this like he doesn't already know the answer. Because Angelo is nosy, because he's curious, because he's concerned. That might be the worst of them all. Whatever patience Harding had for this conversation is quickly flying out the window, but there's a distinct sense that it's not entirely because of Angelo.]
There's always going to be accidents in abandoned places. That's why they're abandoned, that's why we tell you not to go sneaking in. [His voice is rising.] But you don't listen. [Do you? is the unsaid punctuation to that statement, delivered in the focused, intense stare Harding levels on Angelo.]
no worries
[ angelo smiles. he doesn't have a charming one at all, but that's just angelo's regular face. ] Rats and other mammals are capable of living in burrows until Spring sets in and lets thaw the Earth, and yet they don't mysteriously die in these dark places during their stay. Most of them live to see another season.
An accident can happen, but it's not a guarantee. [ unless you make it so. ] I'm just asking if it ever has happened, during your time securing the shelter.

[Harding's tone evens itself back out, stripped dry of all emotion. There's only cold, hard calmness in his eyes as he rounds on Angelo, taking one step forward. And then another. And then another, until it becomes clear Angelo is going to have to step back to avoid crashing into him.]
I already told you what I knew. Now you're trying to get under my skin. Manipulate me. Get me to say something you want to hear.
[Another step.]
Yeah? [There's a horrible, ugly smile in his voice.] That about right?

- would send him to his grave if it meant achieving an outcome. but he would not want him hurt needlessly. ]
No. You don't even know what I want to hear.
But you are correct in saying that I do want answers - because you keep giving me enough to question things.
I do find this interesting, however. [ to put it lightly - santa rosita is not as peaceful and controlled as it seems. ] You are really not like anyone else here, and that weighs on you.
no subject
Fuck you, [he whispers.] You don't know the first thing about me.
[Radiating cold, seething fury, Harding snaps his fingers right under Angelo's nose. The first stage of Tranquilization washes over him and Harding leans back.]
Go home.
