FONTINA AND FOCACCIA
As the luncheon continues, you may be able to notice some of the HHA volunteers scurrying back and forth, taking turns manning the doors and the small table where Betty’s taking donations and issuing meal vouchers. Watch long enough and you’ll be able to see that all of them are ultimately reporting to three ladies who confer at a smaller table set back from all the mingling, talking amongst themselves and from time to time making notes in a small ledger. At about half past noon, one of the women stands, calling out, “May I have your attention, please?” She has to repeat it a couple times to be heard, but after a minute or two everybody settles down. The woman nods toward all of the guests, then turns back to the table, allowing one of the women to stand and make herself known. Tall, graceful, and neat, she takes a look around the room as she speaks — does her gaze linger a moment on you?

MUNDANITY AND MISHAPS
After the luncheon, things in Santa Rosita continue on as normal. The weekend comes and goes, the work week begins, and the cold February wind blows… But when you wake up on February 10th, some of you are missing. |

OOC INFO
Welcome to the first part of February’s event! You can use this entry to top-level for the event, but feel free to utilize the log and network communities as well. Sign-ups to have your character abducted are located here; please fill out the form provided along with any other pertinent details.
You may play with the townsfolk NPCs as necessary in your threads; non-Robbied neighbors will be cordial and happy to make small talk and will try to maintain the pleasant atmosphere. Robbies will, as always, be mindlessly optimistic and complimentary about everything—you may find that most of the Robbies have congregated at their own table and are bubbling with excitement over just about anything.
There will be a top-level posted for Rosemary below. If you would like to have your character interact with her, comment with your starter there. The mods will respond to tags for Rosemary until February 15th.
Any questions can go in our FAQ thread below. Try to check and see if your question has already been answered on the plotting thread first here.
Remember — part 2 of this event is coming February 15th!

Invites and Insistences
He begins undoing the top two frog fastenings, hoping the indication he is going inside shortly might dissuade any lengthy conversation out in the cold. The coat is knee length, black with what might be embroidered scale patterns around the cuffs, a gold ribbon trim all around the edges and a geometric pattern around the bottom. It's certainly not something that fits with the local style, since Wrathion made it himself.
"A fundraiser?" he inquires, "what are we raising funds for?"
After all, he's curious despite himself.
no subject
Ethel echoes some more cheerful and empty explanations about the fundraiser and the lunch before Huaisang chirps up again. "Our families should plan to go together! You and my son Angelo are just about the same age, after all, and it would be good for both of you to make more friends."
no subject
Wrathion has no idea, but pastes on a pleasant smile regardless. The more he plays along, he suspects, the quicker it will be over.
"I'd be delighted," he enthuses, "I'm sure it would be all the more enjoyable to be there in your company."
He glances toward Ethel, then back to Huaisang. Ethel seems... to be particularly cheerful, in a way that indicates to Wrathion she might be local.
"I wouldn't want to inconvenience you, of course, when you're both so busy, so I suppose planning will have to wait..."
Unless, of course, Huaisang desires to get away immediately. In which case, perhaps now is the right time to plan.
no subject
Huaisang has rarely seen any fashion he hates more than the hideous yellow flower splatters printed on Ethel's current dress, but what matters is the way that Ethel coos and preens under the flattery, and goes on her way, leaving Huaisang alone with his friend. "Shall we head inside before anyone else makes sure we've received our invitations?"
no subject
His eyes flit to Huaisang, and Wrathion studies the reaction a moment before nodding.
"Of course," he says finally, unwinding his scarf and beginning to continue onwards towards his front door. He digs for his keys, finishes unfastening his coat before he reaches to unlock and push his way in. The house is relatively normal, inside and out, aside from the instant blast of heating that's noticeable from inside. Wrathion is used to warmer climates, and so the heating has been habitually kept high. "You'll just have me for company, but I'll pass on the invitation of course."
Said with a mildly conversational tone, as if that's all they're coming inside for.
no subject
He shivers, chewing on his lower lip. "Thank you for providing at least a temporary refuge against that. I'll try to sneak back to my own home soon."
no subject
Said with the tone of someone who doesn't think it deserved. Wrathion shuts the door behind them, moves to set his keys down in a bowl and begins shrugging off his coat. It's hung up on a hook carefully, with the thin scarf settled beside it.
"I can offer you some herbal tea while you wait her out, if that would suit?"
About the best he can manage, in terms of catering for a guest. He turns from the coat hooks, straightening his shirt cuffs a little and lofting an eyebrow in question.
no subject
"That would be lovely, thank you." Looking Wrathion's fashion over with approval, Huaisang nods briefly at the coat. "Where did you find that coat? It's exquisite. And I do mean it this time. You're not Ethel. I do promise I'm not blind."
no subject
"One of my own pieces. The choices here are... limited, so I had to work with what I could find in town. I hope to improve on it as time allows."
After all, he could hardly allow Huaisang to believe that was his best work. That would be insulting.
no subject
"You're a clothier?" Brightening excitedly, Huaisang follows after him into the kitchen. "How wondrous. I wish I had such skills. I keep wanting to make modifications to my wardrobe but I've never learned mending and alterations like that. I can only dream of being able to design my own creations like you've done with that coat."
no subject
"I consider myself more a crafter -- I've dealt with gems and weapons as well as clothing. If you would like to learn, I'd say there's no time like the present. The fashion here is certainly... not to my taste."
To put it mildly. He turns back to draw down some cups.
no subject
He draws a hand-painted fan out of his purse and opens it, stirring the air lightly to show off the beauty of it. "I'm an artist myself. This is far from one of my best works, but, well, I can't bear being without a fan to match every outfit." The match in this case to his tweed dress isn't perfect, but it's good enough to satisfy his aesthetic eye.
no subject
"You paint?" he prompts. "On canvas or decoration only?"
After all, a decorative detailing on a fan is different to painting a landscape or portrait. He pours out the hot water into a teapot, considering it thoughtfully, and sets it aside. Wrathion's flair for design leans toward high detail, gold trim, things that aren't necessarily popular in their current realm's fashion. However, decorative painting has potentially. If only everything weren't slowed down with his magic so restricted! It really does frustrate him.
no subject
He does few portraits but plenty of detailed landscapes, though the time cost of those and the price structure of the local customers has kept him from working on many of those here. He has no idea what kind of painting is done on canvas but he's not about to admit ignorance of any painting style after that slight upon his artistry. He would never consider painting on such a coarse material as canvas. Refined painting should be done on the finest bamboo paper or--preferably--on silk.
no subject
"I mean no offence," he offers carefully. "Only that I imagine there are different skillsets used in completing an individual piece to be hung or in a design for a fan. I wasn't sure if you enjoyed both equally."
He sets the lid on the teapot, turns to lean his weight back against the counter. Painting is not something he's ever been particularly interested in mastering, so he can only guess.
no subject
Tugging shyly at one of the long bangs that hang on either side of his cheeks, Huaisang ducks his head. "I'm sorry for rambling on. But if you ever desire anything painted..."
no subject
Certainly, there are images Wrathion wishes he could commit to canvas -- some more private than others. The views out from the Veiled Stair, the sun rising over Uldum, the night sky over Silithus, several memories he'd like to keep hold of.
Here, though?
Wrathion wonders if it may be better to keep those memories close to his chest. Better not to... allow anything personal to be exposed lest he regret it.
"Of course," he says smoothly. "Likewise, if you require any tailoring -- my spare time is limited but... if you have no objection to a potential wait."
Some small works should be easy enough. He thinks about Daylight's too-short trousers, and adds those to the list of things he'll really have to prioritise. If he has to see something like that again he may not be able to bear it.
no subject
He'd certainly rather give a portion of his earnings to Wrathion than to the locals, when it comes to commissioning alterations to his clothes.
no subject
Wrathion is not, usually, someone who partakes in... teaching. Teaching is a slow, arduous process. He has more patience than he previously -- as a younger man he barely had any at all, only interested in instant results.
However. There is, he realises, potential here. Firstly, potential to have Huaisang owe him a favour. There is value in that. He could add it to list and call upon it when he's in need. Secondly, there's value in having someone else able to tailor. The shops don't create things that interest him, in someone he knows able to use the machine might mean he could redirect some work when necessary.
Lastly, it would be useful to be in the good books of some people here. Friendship does not come... naturally to Wrathion. Interacting with mortals is often awkward. He knows they empathise much more quickly than he does, understand the world by different rules. Anduin would tell him he should make an effort. So then --
"Of course," he answers smoothly. "You needn't worry about pay. We can simply consider it a favour for a favour."
no subject
Bowing respectfully, Huaisang smiles when he rises up again. "Teacher." The title is offered with respect to Wrathion's knowledge but also with a hint of playful cheekiness.
